Preface
This module is designed to serve as an introduction to those beginning to engage with the process of pedagogical documentation, whilst being a catalyst for the development of a deeper knowledge and understanding of the process and practice to make visible children’s early learning.
It is set within the current climate of thinking which takes account of democratic practices and children as participators and active agents in their own lives and learning and as stated by Bruner (1996:29), cited by Pascal (2003),
‘We need to rethink our current pedagogical practice if we are to support the notion of active questioning children seeking greater mastery over their worlds.’
Within such constructs the child is perceived as a rich, resourceful and competent citizen whose interests are key to their learning as they are to pedagogical documentation.
Purpose
This module will enable participants to: develop a systematic knowledge of pedagogical documentation – theory, process and practice critical awareness and understanding of the origins of their own pedagogical base and that of others develop a critical awareness and understanding of ethical issues and practice when engaging with pedagogical documentation use emerging knowledge in this specialised approach to critically analyse and evaluate a range of research and current debates which centre around social, political, cultural and educational contexts become comfortable with their engagement in innovative and leading edge thinking and practice read across a range of literature and engage in professional dialogue which will allow them to synthesise their thoughts and information to then share and shape present and future constructs of children’s learning in the 21st Century.
