Continuity and Progression Through Active Learning

This folder has been designed as a bridge between 3-5, 5-14 and A Curriculum for Excellence, giving guidance and support to nursery staff and teachers, as they make more sense of what A Curriculum for Excellence can look like for their children. It is underpinned by current thinking and a strong pedagogical base which puts the child at the centre of their own development and learning. It gives the guidance that many teachers have asked for: planning their time; planning and organising the children’s time and the learning environment. It looks closely at continuity and progression of learning and teaching and offers a model for enabling whole school teams to ensure coherence and progression of the development of the aspirations for the children of Scotland through the four capacities and the principles within A Curriculum for Excellence.

Mininbeasts in Our Garden

The Minibeasts in Our Garden DVD is the result of teachers asking for copies of materials used at staff development sessions. This DVD has a particular focus on an interdisciplinary approach to being Responsible Citizens who are caring for their environment. It gives examples of teacher directed learning, teacher initiated learning and child initiated learning. These examples can be printed off as a resource for staff to use with their children or adapt or extend. It is suitable for children in Primary one and two bridging across the early and first levels.
